Little did she know when she lived in an apartment complex down the street, one day she would call St. Augustine her home! One of our newest Residents is KAREN McKAY who has been with us for four months. Her only previous contact with Little Sisters of the Poor, St. Augustine Home was attending rummage sales and the Christmas Bazaar. When asked what she loved about being a Resident here, she was quick to reply with a big smile on her face, “Everything.”
Born in Cincinnati, Karen has lived in 9 states – Washington, New Mexico, Arizona, California and in between. She has held a variety of jobs – from Night Manager at a retirement community in Washington State, Reservations Agent at Hughes Airwest in Phoenix and Secretary in the school system in Mesa, AZ. When her sister, Elaine, moved to Indianapolis in the 1990’s, Karen decided to move to Indianapolis and call it home. Karen has 3 sons and 6 grandchildren and looks forward to their visits.
She loves all kinds of music, sewing and craft hobbies and just loves keeping busy! Karen has been enjoying the watercolor class taught by Libby Porter on Fridays. She has become quite the artist and was very surprised to see her original painting in a frame.
