Is Indianapolis really Indianapolis without the Indy 500 running up to and on Memorial weekend? No! And St. Augustine isn’t St. Augustine without our own Mini 500.
The skies were grey and rain fell on our front oval, our traditional race venue. Resident and employee competitors and visitors, including former Mayor Greg and wife Winnie Ballard, who attended for their 8th consecutive running of the race, took shelter in Lanagan Hall. There, race teams earned their recognition and prizes.
In addition to the prizes and treats, we also shared some sad time together, saying farewell to Dr. Maria Wilson, our Medical Director, and to Mother Mary Vincent. Mother had been our superior and administrator for six years, and has now moved to the Little Sisters home in Pittsburgh, PA.
Thank you to the racers, announcers, and visitors who toughed out our rainy day to celebrate this Indy favorite and to say goodbye to Dr. Wilson and Mother Mary Vincent.
