St. Jeanne Jugan told us that making the elderly happy is what our mission is all about – but we can’t do it alone. We welcome the collaboration of people from all walks of life in our work of hospitality.
Our staff members are the first extension of our hands, assisting us in the care of the residents and the upkeep of our homes on a daily basis. They have the privilege of helping our residents experience their last years as a time of joy and personal fulfillment. Our employees are an essential part of the Jeanne Jugan family.
Of equal importance to us at St. Augustine Home is our family of volunteers. They offer support in every area of our home, including assisting with administrative tasks, helping with fundraising activities, working in the kitchen and laundry, making beds, gardening, maintenance, hosting parties, visiting with residents, etc. Through their free gift of self, they are extensions of our hearts.
We are lucky to have two sets of volunteers at our home. We have our regular volunteers, as well as the volunteers organized by our Women’s Guild. Last year, regular volunteers contributed more than 9,800 volunteer hours to the home. Volunteers organized by our Women’s Guild contributed an additional 14,740 hours to the home, for a total of 24,540 hours!
Each year, a group called the Independent Sector determines the value of a volunteer’s time. They estimate that it would cost the Little Sisters $23.07 an hour to recruit, train, retain, and pay an employee’s salary and benefits to do the work that a volunteer does. Based on this figure, St. Augustine Home volunteers provided more than $566,000 worth of their time to the Little Sisters last year!
We truly could not do it without you!
God Bless You!
