Virlee and Jim Weaver opened their farm to our Residents for a picnic, tour of the farm, and a sing along. We had the most beautiful day of the summer, leaving the drought and brown fields behind for a verdant landscape brought back to life by recent thunderstorms.
The annual picnic is a favorite of Residents and Sisters, too. In fact, the reputation is so good there were more Residents in the long caravan to the farm than ever before. One Resident said, “I know the food is great; I was here last year!”
The dinner of chicken, vegetables, and fruit was all Weaver-grown. Dinner was followed with golf-cart tours of the area, including a neighboring fully-organic field and horse jumping competition site, 10-foot tall sunflowers, and the sight of the Weavers’ huge rain barrels to help through drought conditions. People just couldn’t help singing, and a sing-along further sweetened the air. The crystal-blue skies and cool breezes were a bonus that enwrapped a
perfect country day.
