The chapel ranks were swelled when Volunteers joined regular attendees at a thanksgiving Eucharist for the Volunteers at St. Augustine’s Home on June 6, 2012. Songs and prayer held the group as one Body, sharing one bread.
Following the Eucharist, Volunteers enjoyed a delicious meal with a selection of salads and entrees. The dessert cake, which vanished quickly, had been inscribed “We gratefully appreciate the gift of you. With love and prayers, the Sisters and Residents.” Raffle winners chose among prizes and all the guests received a gift bag filled to the rim…and there was no shortage of chocolate.
Volunteers are important members of the St. Augustine’s family. When asked why they volunteer, many, many responded with words such as, “Oh, I get much more out of this than I give. I’ve been included within the spirit of the Sisters, and I can feel it in all parts of my life. I wouldn’t want to miss my times at St. Augustine’s. The Sisters have been there for me, and I want to be there for them and for the Residents.”
Thank you, Volunteers, for your hard work and, even more importantly, for your love.
