Who would believe that a long series of 100+ degree days would break for just ONE day of British Open weather for the St. Augustine’s Swing Fore Seniors Golf Tournament? Anyone who knows the Little Sisters of the Poor and their trust that St. Joseph will, again, provide would believe it. It happened on July 20 at Ironwood Golf Club in Fishers, IN. Misty air and a consistent breeze kept golfers and volunteers comfortable for a full summer day of Florida Scramble golf, auctions, beverage carts, putting contest, raffle, and a savory lunch and dinner.
Looking like a NASCAR race start, 96 golf carts set off at the shotgun start at 12:00 noon, sharp. 192 players were deployed throughout the course, where they had additional opportunities to win prizes, make use of Mulligans, and have snacks at selected holes. What a great day!
The major tournament sponsors include Blakley’s Flooring, Collina Ventures, LLC, St. Vincent Indianapolis Hospital, and Zink Distributing Company, with more individuals and companies stepping up as Birdie, Corporate, Specialty, and Hole Sponsors. Thank you all for supporting the work and Resident family of the Little Sisters in Indianapolis!
Larry Kaelin, Chairman of the Swing Fore Seniors Golf Committee, worked tirelessly, bringing his family members, committee members, and numerous volunteers into action for an event that worked like a well-oiled machine: a really fun and gratifying well-oiled machine. Mayor Greg Ballard stopped in along with Master of Ceremonies Bruce Kopp of WTHR, Jersey Johnny Cimasko, 1070 The Fan, and Mike Jansen, Colts Stadium Announcer.
Many shared the experience of Jersey Johnny who wrote,
Thanks to everyone involved for letting me be a part of such a great day. I look forward to it every year. I had a lot of fun, and it is a real pleasure to work with such dedicated, professional people.
– John Cimasko
