Mark Council, Sr. was employed on April 26, 2006, as a full-time Janitor. On June 20, 2011, he was promoted to the position of Floor Tech because he demonstrated in his job performance how passionate and very particular he was about refinishing the Home’s floors. Mark is very organized and a true floor professional; he starts his work promptly and meets all assigned deadlines. He is always ready to help with any task, he transitions easily from one task to another totally unrelated task, and he is still able to complete his originally assigned work. He is a very strong housekeeping/janitor team member.
Mark is adaptable to changing his hours, when needed, and is comfortable working alone. He sees what projects need to be done such as putting supplies away in the basement and completes these projects without being asked. Without complaint, he assists with the heavy job of moving furniture from the basement for the many Rummage sales as well as set up/tear down for the many events in Lanagan Hall, and moving the Residents from one unit to another when needed. He shows great patience with the many work interruptions he encounters daily. Mark willingly shares his knowledge with his co-workers; this was demonstrated by the excellent job he did preparing and presenting an In-Service program on janitor equipment.
Mark is congenial in all of his interactions with others and he has the utmost patience with the Residents. With his shy demeanor, Mark quietly and humbly goes about his work. The Little Sisters, Residents and Staff are very happy that Mark decided to join the St. Augustine’s Home family in 2006. We all feel he is a reflection of St. Jeanne Jugan–humbly going about his duties and helping the Little Sisters in their mission of “Making the Residents happy”, and he is very deserving to be recognized as the 2013 St. Jeanne Jugan Award recipient.
Congratulations, Mark!
