Divine Mercy Chaplet
One of our apartment Residents, Alix Elsts, has a great daily devotion to the Divine Mercy Chaplet. Once a month, Alix leads a gathering of Nursing Residents, at a special time during the day, in this very powerful prayer.
On Friday, June 14 our Music and Memory Director, Jennifer Davis, brought her two young daughters, ages nine and eleven, to our Home on her day off to sing the Chaplet of Mercy to our Residents. The journey from Jennifer’s home to ours is about a 45 minute drive. This is a complicated piece for young children. Jennifer used her talents to get the girls ready.
A large group of twenty five Residents in wheelchairs, with walkers and canes were assembled on the west side porch and Alix explained there was a special treat in store for them on this day. After a few introductions, Jennifer played the keyboards as the crystal voices of the young girls rang out the words of the Divine Mercy prayer to the delight of our Residents.
The porch was filled with a prayerful ambiance as the young voices carried the spirituality of this devotion through the air. Tearful eyes could be seen around the room. This time of devotion was appreciated by all who attended.
At the conclusion of the event, we raffled off four gift bags for the enjoyment of all.
We are certain that Our Lady and the Divine Heart of Jesus was touched by this simple display of homemade devotion.
